Willow (Flower Child #2) by Moxie Darling

Title: Willow
Author: Moxie Darling
Series: Flower Child #2
Genre: Erotica

About the Book:

When Willow Spencer receives an intriguing letter from her best friend, she heads to West Virginia with only a suitcase and a lust for adventure. Agreeing to live with a man you’ve never met and be nanny to his three children is a little dangerous and a lot of crazy. In other words? Just what she needs. A wild child at heart, Willow leaves life as she knows it behind without a backwards glance. But when she arrives at the rundown trailer deep in backwoods territory and meets the rough, practically mute mountain man who seems immune to her flirtatious charm, she begins to doubt her decision and her sanity.

THIS BOOK WAS PREVIOUSLY TITLED BONED ON BLUECREEK.

This is the second novella in a planned series. It is NOT a full-length book.

(Disclaimer: this novella is for adults only. It contains explicit sex, rough sex, sex with strangers, and sexual situations some might find offensive including dubious consent.)

My Review:

While the first book in this series is pure sex, Willow is more than that. Willow is a friend of Clover’s and agrees to become the nanny for a widower and his three kids. The pay isn’t much, but Willow is bored on the hippy commune and needs a change. One of those changes is a new man/conquest. Willow loves sex and no man can resist her charms. She gets to the trailer and meets Teddy – a loner who shut down after his wife’s death. She puts the moves on him and even though he notices her, he resists and turns her away.
Willow has her work cut out for her, both with the kids, cleaning the trailer, and Teddy still resists her advances. Until he becomes jealous while they are all at Clover’s for a campout with the kids. Teddy walks in on Jim and Willow about to have sex and demands she go home…with him. On the way home, something happens to change the dynamic of their relationship.

I have to say that I enjoyed this story so much more than Clover. While it is erotica, there is more to the story than just sex. The steamy parts are just that, the funny parts made me laugh out loud, and the angst was well written. Overall, this is a good, short, steamy, sexy, story.

My Rating: 4 Stars

Bravest Flame (Mythical Knights #1.5) by Candice Gilmer

Take a HOT fireman and an independent woman who doesn’t have time for dating games and you have Chase and Denise from Bravest Flame. Denise and Chase are pushed together in a whirlwind of chaos and danger!

Denise has a life full of work, writing novels, friends, and that’s about all she wants. Chase convinces her to go on a date with him, even though she is reluctant, and what happens on that date is the start of the chaos of being possessed. What she thought was a fantasy world, turns into real life vampires, werewolves, and a slew of other paranormal creatures she could only imagine! While an easy read, the story gripped me and kept me engaged.  Yes, some of the actions are a little over the top, but that’s the beauty of this series. So much happens that moves the story along and create the suspenseful part of the story to push the main characters together. And, together they are in a HOT and passionate way! My kindle was smoking!!

I love Denise and her no nonsense attitude. She is the kind of heroine that I adore in a story. What’s not to like about the sexy, fireman, Chase? He adores Denise and has a protective side when it comes to her. The paranormal characters are fun, witty, and at times, scary (the sheldvaks give me the creeps). The twists and turns kept me engaged. Overall, it’s such a fun way to move this series along!

Penetrated at Ponetown by Moxie Darling

Title: Penetrated on Ponetown
Author: Moxie Darling
Series: Back Roads Book #1
Genre: Erotica
Spice Meter: Scorching
My Rating: 3.5 Stars

About the Book:

On a mission to bring the love of literacy to impoverished rural children, Clover Willoughby finds herself stranded on a dry, dusty West Virginia back road. Out of gas, out of service, and out of patience, she starts walking. When she stumbles across a quaint cabin in the woods, she's relieved at her good fortune. Her relief turns to trepidation—and anticipation—when the rough, crude mountain man living there offers to assist her . . . for a price. And he's not interested in money.

(Disclaimer: this novella is for adults only. It contains explicit sex scenes, rough sex, ménage situations, sex with strangers, and taboo elements that some might find offensive.)

My Review:

Penetrated on Ponetown is Erotica, plain and simple. While not for everyone, the way this book was written was well done and well thought out. Clover’s car breaks down in the middle of nowhere while she is trying to get to a rural family to teach their kids to read. After walking for a few miles, she sees a rustic cabin and the older man that lives in it – Jim. Jim offers to help her with her car IF she helps him and his son, sexually. The son, Eustace, has never been with a woman and Jim wants to teach him how to do just that. Coming from a commune, she is comfortable with sex and nudity, so nothing is really taboo to her. Clover agrees to stay for a week and immediately becomes what the men need – a warm female body for Jim and a teacher to Eustace.

While this kind of taboo isn’t really my thing, I know a lot of people do enjoy this dynamic. The writing is well done and the story is well thought out. Clover and Eustace’s connection was easy to imagine because his character was sweet, caring, and sensitive. Jim is more of a man’s man, but the thought of a father and son sharing a woman creeped me out.

Overall, if you share the fantasy portrayed in this story, then you’ll enjoy this story. While I didn’t, that is subjective and doesn’t take away from how well done the story really is.

My Review:

**My review is based on reading ONLY Guarding Her Secret by Candice Gilmer. I have not read the rest of the stories in the Anthology**

Guarding Her Secret, by Candice Gilmer, is one of the short stories in the Taming the Monster Anthology. It is the only one that I have read, so far, but just this one story is worth the price tag!  Featuring Reese from Ms. Gilmer’s Saving Her Destiny, this fairy is called upon to protect and talk to his ex-girlfriend, Viola. Viola lives in the Highlands and runs a bar, talking and mingling with the locals and visitors there to see if the lore of the town is true. What is the lore? The Loch and the Loch Ness Monster. Viola keeps tabs on the stories and sightings to make sure the tourism stays and the creature isn’t seen too often or too well. Why does she care? Because Viola IS the Loch Ness Monster! She was cursed by a witch many years ago because as a mermaid she had to stay in salt water and could not enter bodies of fresh water. Now she has to enter the Loch every three days before she transforms or she will become the monster forever.

Also in the area is a famous TV host of Exploration TV, Jordan Doors, who investigates folk lore and proves them wrong. Only, this time his team actually sees the Loch Ness Monster with a fairy on its back and then leaks the footage to the public. Reece and the Templar have to fix this mess and make sure the humans do not discover the truth to the myth of the creature. But, while there he falls back in love with Viola and doesn’t remember why he abandoned her in the first place.

Having read and LOVED previous books featuring the residents of Avalon, I had high hopes for this story. What I got was not only everything I hoped for, but a lot more! Not only did the details bring the story to life, but they created such a vivid imagery that made me want to get to know the cast of characters on a more personal level as friends! This author breaths so much life into her work that I never want the story to end and want more and more and more. Candice Gilmer has fast become one of my go-to authors because whatever she writes I love.

Dark Within by Candice Gilmer Review

Title: Dark WIthin
Author: Candice Gilmer
Series: Mythical Knights

My Rating: 5 Stars

Book Blurb:

The Mythical Knights, Book 1

There was a time Marissa van Dyke loved Halloween. Then tragedy struck. Now the sight of a jack-o-lantern only reminds her of what she's lost. In fact, she'd prefer to just hibernate.

But recently her nightmares are becoming too intense to ignore. Dreams filled with horror-movie creatures that come closer to killing her every time. Where these vampires and werewolves are coming from, she doesn't know. She only knows they're relentless.

Neil Drigan has no interest in finding a mate. Bind himself to one woman? No thank you. Permanent is for the wolf pack Alpha--his brother. Yet lately he persistently dreams about running, in full wolf form, to save a beautiful woman who smells of flowers--and death.

At first the woman's identity is a mystery, until he realizes the dreams are a residual imprint of something that really happened. Not only is the woman temptation wrapped in real flesh and blood, she's still in danger. And the one thing he never thought he wanted.

Originally released as "Unholy Night" 2008-2012. Since expanded and fully revamped. (No pun intended, lol. Okay, maybe a little one)

Warning: Werewolves, vampires, Templar Knights with attitudes, and a girl who must face her biggest fear in order to find love.

My Review:

Dark Within is Book One is the Mythical Knights Series, but a continuation about the Drigan Brothers from The Brightest Shadow (book # 0.5). Neil is the focus in this story and as a playboy he doesn’t have any interest in finding a mate and settling down. That is, until he dreams of saving a woman that smells of flowers and death. He insists on finding this woman and discovers it is Marissa – a friend of his brother’s mate.

Marissa has been plagued with sadness. Halloween used to be her favorite holiday, but then her parents were killed one Halloween and now it is a terrible time of year full of sadness. She has been having horrible nightmares and is covered in unexplainable bruises. But, Neil is the one thing that makes her smile – even though she can’t figure him out most of the time.

I absolutely love this series and the Drigan brothers. They are so strong, and sexy, and protective of those they care about. Neil tries so hard to do the right thing and be the good guy, something ingrained in his family. This trait just makes me love these guys that much more…swoon…and Neil, especially. He can’t tell Marissa what he is, but he has a duty to protect her from her attackers. What woman wouldn’t want a guy that feels that way? Marissa is too hurt and traumatized to realize how good Neil is for her, so she pushes him away.
I was excited to see David and Kelsey in this book, again. I love how protective David is of his mate’s friend. Kelsey and Marissa are as close as sisters, so the bond between all of them melts my heart. The way the pair tried to coax Neil and Kelsey together was entertaining on it’s own.

I really, really, enjoy this series and this book. I can’t wait for more of the Drigan clan from the author.

Release Day Post - Right By Your Side by Christi Snow!!!!

Title: Right By Your Side
Author: Christi Snow
Series: Martin Men
My Rating: 4 Stars

About the Book:

Best Female Country Artist. Sold out world-wide tour. Record-setting album sales. It’s been a stellar year for Skye Taylor and it’s left her exhausted. All she wants to do is go home to Oklahoma, curl up in her little house, and veg out in pj’s with a pile of junk food. But when her tour bus crashes in the middle of West Texas, her priorities suddenly shift. Now she’s sitting bedside hoping her best friend and bodyguard, KC, survives. For Scott Martin, he simply wants this horrible year to end. After the murder of his brother, his family is falling apart. With one crisis after another pulling him back to the family ranch, he’s put way too many late night miles on his truck between his family home and Lubbock, where he works as a paramedic. When he comes upon the wrecked tour bus, he has no idea this is one emergency which will change his life forever. Skye and Scott quickly form a friendship which hints at possibilities of more. But as these two dodge paparazzi, over-zealous label executives, and stalker fans, they soon discover that everything is easier when you have someone you trust RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE. And that becomes even more important when they discover the bus wreck wasn’t an accident…

My Review:

Ever since Christi Snow’s When the Mission Ends series, I have been patiently waiting for the Martin men series to come out and I have to say – it was worth the wait!! Scott Martin is an EMT and one of the older brothers of the clan. He feels guilty for leaving his father and youngest brother’s care to his oldest brother, Andrew. But, his busy job and schedule have kept him away from the family ranch. While traveling to the ranch to check on his ailing father, Scott comes across a horrific bus crash scene. The bus is in pieces and the two survivors need his help.

Skye Taylor is the nation’s bestselling country artist, so things have been going really well for her and her best friend, KC. But, her life is shattered and changed forever when her tour bus crashes with her, her driver, and KC in it.  Skye was belted into her seat, but KC was in the rear bed and was thrown around. Trapped underneath the burning back of the bus, she is relieved when an off duty EMT stops to help. Scott gets KC out from danger and eventually convinces Skye to go to the hospital to be checked out and he’ll check in on her the next day. He follows through and gets pulled into the dangerous world of Skye Taylor while helping her to recover and stay safe.

What can I saw about Scott Martin? He is sexy, sweet, helpful, and full of so much guilt for not being there for his family as much as he could have. His father is ill, his youngest brother is mixed up with drugs, and his oldest brother is a zombie for taking on all the responsibility on his own. Add in the death of their other brother, Thomas and there is a whole lot of heartache in this man’s world. But, he sees Skye and there is an instant attraction between them that he never thought he would feel with anyone else. Skye is sweet, but troubled. Everyone she has ever loved has left her, so she guards her heart with an iron fist. KC is her only constant in her life, so she is devastated when he is hurt so badly in the bus crash and has long road of recovery ahead of him. Facing danger, she allows Scott, the detectives, and the security firm to protect her. She feels the intense attraction to Scott, too, but if afraid of committing because everyone she loves goes away.

I really enjoyed the pairing of these two. Scott is all alpha male, but with a sweet and caring side. He just wants to protect Skye and keep her safe. Skye allows him to do so, but she is also independent and used to doing things on her own.  Together, they complement each other so well! I really adored this story and the suspense, love, lust, and twists and turns throughout it. The best part? Brian makes an appearance!!! That make this Brian fan so happy!! Thank you, Christi!

Overall, this is one amazing book to being this series of hunky alpha male stories. I can’t wait to see which Martin man is next and read about his adventure.

Brightest Shadow by Candice Gilmer Release Day!!

Title: Brightest Shadow
Author: Candice Gilmer
Series: Mythical Knights Book #0.5
Heat Meter: Hot
My Rating: 5 Stars

Blurb:

The darkest shadows sometimes have the brightest moments.

The Mythical Knights, book #0.5

Losing a father is always hard, losing a father who’s a pillar of the community is harder.

Losing a father who’s the alpha of your werewolf pack is harder still, yet that’s exactly where David Drigan finds himself--lost and rudderless after the death of his father.

Nonetheless, the final transformation to turn David into the leader has yet to come to him, leaving him and his family wondering, will he ever be strong enough to lead his pack?

Trying to step into his place in society, David meets Kelsey.

Blonde. Curvy. Attitude.

And a little dark.

There’s just something about her that makes David’s beastly desires surface unlike ever before. The need to take her and protect her, if only from herself, overwhelms him.

Not that Kelsey would let him. She doesn’t need anyone to take care of her. Never has. An absentee family taught her one thing--take care of yourself, because no one’s going to do it for you.

But this David guy? There’s just something different about him. At first, she thought it was because his family actually likes each other--a foreign concept for sure.

One night at her favorite decrepit amusement park, she learns there’s a lot more to David than she ever expected.

There’s a lot hidden in the shadows.

Can they find the light, lost in the dark?

My Review:

Wow! This was a fantastic beginning to Candice Gilmer’s Mythical Knights Series! Kelsey has been on her own since she was young. She watched her mother depend on man after man and owe them for their help. She vowed to not be that kind of woman, so she tolerates her boss and his bad attitude because she doesn’t want to depend on anyone but herself for income. After organizing a company event for her bosses, Kelsey quickly gets dressed in one of the upper offices before going down to make sure things are running smoothly.

David’s father just passed away and now the title of Alpha falls to him.  Unfortunately, the Alpha has not come to him, yet, and so he and his family have been waiting to see if it would or if it skipped over him. Meanwhile, he and his family were being honored at a corporate event and he goes into an office to escape and find some quiet. He walks in on Kelsey changing and instantly feels a spark when he helps her zip up her dress. From that moment on, the two of them get together, again, when David goes to her office to sign some paperwork. Her boss sees David there and instantly goes off on Kelsey, blaming her for ruining the deal and having access to confidential information. David lets her boss have it, and Kelsey quits her job, not knowing where her next paycheck will come from or how she is going to survive on her own.

Kelsey takes David on a date to an abandoned amusement park, but they are ambushed and have to run and hide to save their lives. David reveals his secret to her and she takes it much better than he thought she would. Unfortunately, they have to escape through some air vents, but manage to get a message to David’s brother asking for help before they are killed.  Kelsey becomes enveloped in David’s world and must make an important decision that impacts both of their lives forever.
Brightest Shadow is easily one of my favorite stories of 2015! The author’s world building and storytelling abilities are phenomenal!  Candice Gilmer is becoming one of my favorite authors with her writing style and ability to tell an interesting and unique paranormal story while keeping the reader engaged and entertained. There was not a moment where I felt like I had to put the book down because I needed a break. I could not get enough of this story and these characters!!
I can’t wait to read more of this series! I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good paranormal story!
